Large, electric-powered rotary drills drill holes up to 12 inches in diameter as much as 100 feet in a matter of minutes. These drill holes are filled with a slurry explosive and blasted. The blast is NOT designed to throw broken rock into the air but rather to break the rock for easy loading.
