Geology of Manitoba

The Province of Manitoba occupies 650,000 km3 and is underlain entirely by rocks of PreCambrian age. Two-fifths of the PreCambrian basement is concealed beneath rocks formed during the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras. The 4 major physiographic regions reflect much of the nature of the underlying bedrock and the effects of the Pleistocene glaciation.
